The Science of Positivity
Where science meets spirit, transformation becomes a way of life.
This exploration of The Power of Positivity goes far beyond the idea of simply “thinking positive.” And let’s be clear, this isn’t about spiritual bypassing, ignoring your pain, or pretending everything is okay when it’s not. It’s quite the opposite.
In my Consciousness Medicine practice, developed over 20 years of clinical experience, I’ve seen again and again that healing happens when we face the whole truth of what we’re living, both the shadow and the light, the problems and the possibilities that emerge from them.
This is what I call Release and Refill.
We honour the pain, release the patterns that no longer serve, and then refill with the vision of what we truly desire.
The most powerful transformations happen when the desired state holds more energy than the problem state.
When your desired state, your joy, your freedom, your healed self, carries more energy than the old pattern, healing accelerates. My clients who practice this balance manifest what they want more quickly and easily.

When Science Meets Spirit
As a scientist, I’m always excited when science catches up to ancient wisdom. Let me share a few fascinating examples.
Vanessa Van Edwards, behavioural investigator and Science of People founder, studies human behaviour, communication, and emotional dynamics. She ran a study on the emotional ripple effect and found that when a person walked into a room holding a positive emotional state, the entire room shifted upward.
People smiled more, engaged more, and their energy lifted.
On the other hand, when someone entered a negative state, the room quickly spiralled down.
What this shows is that your emotional state doesn’t just affect you — it affects everyone around you.
Dr. Masaru Emoto, Science of Water Founder, whose famous water crystal photography revealed the impact of energy on consciousness and matter, gave us another glimpse of this truth.
His experiments showed how words and thoughts literally shape matter.
When water was exposed to loving words like gratitude or peace, the frozen crystals formed beautiful, harmonious patterns. When exposed to hateful or angry words, the structures became chaotic and broken.
Since our bodies are about 70% water, imagine the impact of your inner dialogue.
Your words and thoughts are not just metaphors — they are energy shaping your biology.
The Institute of HeartMath has taken this even further. Their research on heart coherence shows that when we shift into states like gratitude, compassion, or love, our heart rhythms become more ordered and harmonious.
Not only does this improve our physical health, balance our hormones, and lower our blood pressure — it also creates a field of coherence that others can literally feel.
When groups of people do this together, the effect amplifies.
The heart, it turns out, is the most powerful frequency of healing.
And then there’s the work of Carl Jung, the pioneering Swiss psychiatrist who explored the unconscious, archetypes, and the alchemical process of transformation. Jung reminds us that suffering itself is gold. He wrote, “There is no coming to consciousness without pain.”
In other words, the dark nights of the soul are not accidents or punishments — they are initiations, sacred doorways to growth.
Embracing the Sacred Order of Change
When everything feels like it’s falling apart, know that it is in divine order.
You are always in the right place, doing the right thing, at the right time.
The challenge is not working against you; it’s a reflection of your deeper intention for change.
When you recognise the lessons and the resources you’ve gained through these challenges, you realise that the very thing you thought would break you is what allows you to become who you’re meant to be.
Two Daily Practices to Anchor Positivity
- Word Awareness
For the next 24 hours, pay close attention to the words you speak — in conversations, on social media, and even in the privacy of your own thoughts.
Are you leaning toward complaining, gossip, or drama?
Or are your words nourishing, uplifting, and rooted in possibility?
Each time you notice yourself slipping into the negative, pause and reframe.
Instead of saying, “I’m so exhausted, I’ll never get through this,” try,
“I’m tired right now, and I’m learning to listen to what my body needs.”
Your words are codes — choose them wisely.
- Thought Check-In
Set a timer three times a day.
When it goes off, stop and ask yourself:
What am I thinking right now? How does this thought feel in my body?
If the thoughts feel heavy, constricted, or critical — breathe them out.
Then consciously invite a new one in:
What’s one positive possibility I can focus on instead?
Over time, this rewires your brain for positivity.
Guided Practice: Releasing and Refilling
This short guided exercise helps you release what no longer serves, refill with the energy of who you’re becoming, and rewire your brain to hold positivity as your natural state.
- Find a comfortable seat, or lie down if you prefer.
Allow your hands to rest gently on your lap or over your heart.
Close your eyes.
Take a slow, deep breath in through the nose…
and a long, releasing breath out through the mouth. - Inhale deeply, filling your lungs.
Exhale, letting go of tension and distraction. - Bring your awareness to your heart space — the centre of your chest.
Imagine a warm golden light glowing there, like the soft flame of a candle.
With each inhale, see that light grow brighter.
With each exhale, feel it radiate throughout your entire body —
every cell, every muscle, every organ. - Now imagine this light carrying the energy of positivity — not a fake smile or forced optimism, but the deep, grounded knowing that you are becoming who you’re meant to be,
that even the challenges in your life are shaping you for growth. - As you breathe, silently repeat these words:
I release what no longer serves me.
I refill with the light of who I am becoming. - Notice how your body responds — maybe your shoulders soften, your chest opens, or your mind quiets.
Allow that golden light to travel through your body:
down your arms into your hands,
down your spine into your belly,
your hips, your legs, all the way to your feet. - Feel strength. Feel wisdom. You are held.
- From this grounded place, bring to mind one challenge you’re currently facing.
See it in front of you — almost like an image or a symbol.
Acknowledge it. Honour it.
Say silently: I see you. You are part of my growth. - Now, above this image, allow the golden light from your heart to expand, pouring over the challenge.
Imagine it transforming — like lead turning into gold, like a chrysalis opening into a butterfly.
See the challenge become the very resource you need for your future self. - Take a moment to feel gratitude for the lesson this challenge is teaching you.
Whisper to yourself: Thank you for shaping me. Thank you for showing me the way. - Now picture your desired future self — strong, free, radiant — standing just ahead of you on your path.
This future you is smiling, holding out a hand.
Step toward them. - Feel what it’s like to embody that version of yourself — grounded, positive, whole.
Notice how your body feels, how your posture shifts, how your heart lifts.
Anchor this image by repeating:
I am whole. I am growing. I am becoming. - Let that golden light expand one more time, filling the space around you like a field of positivity that others can feel.
You are not only healing yourself — you are lifting the world. - Take three slow breaths here, inhaling positivity and exhaling gratitude.
When you’re ready, open your eyes and return to your day. - Each time you practice this, you’re training your brain to choose positivity, to turn challenges into resources, to anchor your future self, and to radiate a ripple of healing energy that touches everyone around you.
I’m also excited to share my new book project, OmLaLa: The Power of Positivity Playbook, and I’m inviting co-authors and collaborators who feel called to bring more light, wisdom, and healing to the world.
